The way the Capitola is situated on the mouth of the Soquel Creek as it makes it’s way to the ocean into the Monterey Bay Sanctuary is ideal. It is a historic home and most recently lived in and lovingly cared for by Anne Bucher who lived there for 48 years. Anne was a artist and she was given this home by her husband William Bucher in 1967 as a Mother’s Day gift.
Anne Bucher was an artist and she had one of the most beautiful gardens on display for everyone that walked by on their way to the Capitola Beach to enjoy.
William Bucher was a house painter and as the story goes when they first owned it the entire complex was painted beige. They went to the Bermuda on a vacation and when they came homes they had a bright idea that is would be really fun to paint their condo a Bermuda pink like they saw on vacation. The neighbor’s started doing the same and the trend has lasted for decades and made the Venetian Court an icon.

This is a video on the 4th of July weekend from the Capitola Wharf and the Beach. It is very busy in Capitola so we take our boat over with a group of our friends that also have boats in the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. We spend a couple of nights anchored on a ball off the Wharf. That way we can walk into the Capitola Village anytime. And we have front row seats for the music at the wharf.
